Silkscreening

I spent a morning silkscreening the other day. I had a few shirts that could use a 'lil sumthin', so I screened these.

Experimental carrots on the back of an old shirt... I like how they turned out.

Food For Thought boxers!

Before break, I was talking with the foodie club I'm in (Food For Thought) about club apparel. The club wanted to get boxers. We realized that the companies we were considering ordering from were going to be too expensive for us. Then I realized- HEY, I can silkscreen! So we bought boxers cheap and I brought them home with me over break to screen with my pre-existing carrot print.

They turned out pretty well, even though I had to use a system of cardboard and binder clips to stretch out the elastic and keep them from scrunching.

We distributed them at our club meeting tonight, and everyone was super pumped about them. So yay for local food, and yay for local art!

New silkscreens!

The drawings
Painted onto the screen with screen drawing fluid
After screen filler and a wash
The final product! On fabric.

I designed these two silkscreens to be used on shirts; the "soldier of the soil" for the front and the hands holding dirt for the back. They came out a little funky (bad choice to make silkscreens when it's hot and humid...) but I like that they look weather-beaten. Maybe if I get around to an etsy shop one of these days, we can all join the ranks of the land army by wearing this as part of our uniform, along with overalls, carhartts, or crapped up jeans. I'm almost done with a Farmerette one...

(Sorry for the poor picture quality, the weather has been ever so grey and crummy!)
